Amazing Japanese KitKat flavors in Toronto, Canada! We are now fortunate to be able to munch on so many amazing flavors !
What is a more happier image than of a child (or adult!) joyfully munching on a bar of KitKat!
But the introduction of truly unique Japanese KitKat flavors have certainly given the KitKat fan community a whole new chocolate dimension to rave about.
Many of these Japanese KitKat flavors originally were limited edition, seasonal, or regional flavors only found in Japan.
But as international demand for them increases, I’m sure we’ll see them imported more often.
KitKat is a big business after all, and as a brand, is as well recognized everywhere as the soft drink brands.
When KitKat chocolate bars were first introduce in Japan in 1973 by Rowntree, in a business arrangement with Fujiya Co. Ltd., they only produced the standard milk chocolate flavors.
In 2004, they introduced the green tea flavor, and I remember it blew the KitKat fan community away!
By 2019, according to Anders Mayland’s running list blog, Nestlé Japan has released over 350 flavor varieties.

Amazing Japanese KitKat Flavors varieties we found so far…
Due to Toronto’s incredibly diverse Asian community, we are fortunate to have quite a wide variety of Asian supermarkets and shopping malls. You never have to travel too far to find one.
Many of the shops and stores recognized the strong appeal for Japanese products.
So over the years a great amount of Japanese imports filled the shelves and aisles. Everything from cosmetics, housewares, kitchen wares and, of course, food stuff and snacks.
So with the ambitious grand plan to find as many Japanese KitKat flavors as possible, we strode forth to search each store.
The list below is far from complete, and we intend to update it as we discover more.
But please be aware that the list below is just a compilation of what we found.
It does not mean that every supermarket or shop we visited has them.
In fact, more often, we found only one or two of the flavors in some shop and not in others.
And some only appear seasonally like at springtime or on special occasions like Easter or Christmas.

Where do you find these Amazing Japanese KitKat flavors?
Throughout Toronto, Canada, there are so many shops that we’ll probably never be able to cover them all.
But we’ll certainly endeavor to try very hard!
Supermarkets
The city has everything from the standard chinese/korean/japanese supermarket, to the specialty snack and candy shops that proliferate in every neighborhood. We’ll try to cover as many as we can.
Of all the known Chinese supermarkets in the city, the dominant brand is the T & T Supermarket chain, and since having been acquired by the Loblaw Company, T & T has gotten even bigger.
T & T’s goal is to bring many of the authentic tastes of Asia to the Canadian table, and as such imports products from many Asian countries, mainly China, Japan, and Korea.
They even have recurring seasonal events celebrating all manner of themes, from the Chinese New Year, to Japanese or Korean snack events. All to promote their ever growing inventory.
And the communities where the stores are located simply gobble it all up. So much so that some of the Japanese KitKat flavors are hard to keep in stock.
Especially the seasonal flavors like the Sakura (Cherry Blossom) flavor which only occurs during the Spring months, or the Sake flavor which appears during special seasonal events.
Another major Chinese supermarket, Foodymart has also followed a similar business strategy, offering a wide inventory of Asian food and imports, with similar celebratory events.
One of the newest Chinese supermarkets, FreshWayFoodmart, which opened in late 2020, has garnered quite a quick reputation for having consistently fresh food stuff, and a surprisingly large variety of products.
Their products range from cosmetics, teas, home merch, dried goods, and the ever required snacks.
A slow stroll through their snack and candy aisles displayed an overwhelming array of sweet deliciousness.
Japanese KitKat flavor bars is prominent among them.
Malls and Stores
In the major Chinese malls, like the ever popular Pacific Mall, there are a number of small candy shops that cater to all manner of Asian snacks and sweets, and Japanese Flavor KitKats are a major draw.
One of these dominant stores is call, Ding Dong Exotic Sweet , which has expanded to a number of locations in the city, besides Pacific Mall.
They tend to have the widest variety of Kit Kat flavors since candy and snacks is their specialty.
The newest store in town that specifically retails Japanese items is Sukoshi Mart, which brands itself as a well curated Japanese style convenience store, and snacks and candy are just a small part of their grocery aisle.
Another new store chain that brands itself as a retailer of low cost, high quality household and consumer goods is called MINISO. But the types of Japanese KitKat flavors on shelf is small depending from store to store.
Lastly, another new store that recently joined the growing ranks of Japanese inspired Dollar/variety stores in town is called Oomomo.
They are an authentic Japanese variety store offering affordable quality alternatives from kitchenware, stationary, organizers, beauty supplies, to all manner of snacks.
Including about half a dozen Japanese KitKat flavors, which can differ from store to store.
Walking into one of their largest stores in Toronto, there’s no doubt they are positioning themselves to be a major retailer with over 95% of their products imported directly from Japan.
Japan Town
There is Toronto’s own version of Japan town, J-Town, which, although having a small footprint compared to the supermarkets, have a strong sense of community within its plaza environment.
All manner of Japanese products can be found within the small area, filled mainly with a grocery, sushi/seafood, bakeries, butcher shop, Kitchen/table ware shop, cafes/restaurants, beauty/fashion shop, book shop and food court.
However, surprisingly, the Japanese Flavor KitKats sold in the supermarket are limited to a small selection.
Amazon and eBay have Amazing Japanese KitKat Flavors too!
Of all the places to look for Japanese KitKat flavors, without having to go to Japan, Amazon and eBay tend to offer the largest selection.
And since we are specifically keeping with the Canadian theme, Amazon.ca and eBay.ca has a large variety that no Toronto shop can compete with.
From these two mega online centers you can fill your shopping cart with many Japanese KitKat Flavors like, the special Cherry Blossom Sakura Sake, the fun Strawberry Cheesecake, or the New Premium Japanese Chocolate Butter flavor.
However, the downside is that some of the online pricing can be a bit high. Sometimes double or triple than that found with similar products found in the stores.
But if you are looking to score on some of the more rare KitKats not found in stores, like the Wasabi flavor, or the more limited local flavor varieties or Tokyo Banana flavors, then the price may not be much of a limiting factor.
Nestlé introduces their Chocolatory in Toronto!
We have compiled a great list of Japanese Flavor KitKats, that can be found in Toronto, that would satisfy any exotic KitKat cravings.
But we’ve only scratched the surface as there are many more flavors that are still strictly only found in Japan, and they are introducing more every year!
Happily, KitKat’s parent company, Nestlé , has opened their famous KITKAT Chocolatory in the Yorkdale shopping mall in Toronto, which has all KitKat fans in a frothy frenzie.
And in keeping with their famous Japanese Chocolatory stores, this new store has a Made-In-Canada feel.
