The health benefits of alkaline water are known especially in countries blessed with having natural sources of such water.

Countries like France, Germany, and Japan have many natural springs that are legendary for imbuing better health to all who drink the water.

Naturally all these benefits have been documented in one form or another but they are almost all anecdotal.

In turn, with no clear scientific validation modern society views these health benefits with a healthy skepticism.

Japan leads with healthy alkaline water

With a large population in Japan, one of the most important needs in their society is being able to provide enough clean drinking water for everyone.

This is especially important due to their aging population which puts an increasingly high demand to an already limited resource.

Looking at their rural locations of natural springs and aquifers, the Japanese were already aware of some of the surprisingly healthy benefits attributed to such alkaline waters.

Naturally occurring alkaline water stems from spring or aquifer water flowing through mineral rich rocks.

The minerals in the rocks, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium slowly gets dissolve in the water increasing the alkalinity of the water.

Recreating such a process is as simple as mixing a bit of baking soda in a glass of water and voila, your water is alkaline.

However, not to be outdone by such simple kitchen knowledge, the Japanese went further to make alkaline water more available through the chemical process of electrolysis.

Types of Alkaline Water

This device is known as a water ionizer which can be connected to a regular tap in the kitchen.

When tap water flows through sets of electrical plates in the machine, electricity is pass through the water separating the positive and negative ions in the water (known as electrolysis).

By adjusting the strength of the electricity that passes through the water, the machine can actually create different grades of alkaline water, and even different types of water at varying pH levels. Making the following:

My experience with Alkaline water

My experience with the Enagic brand of alkaline water first started when friends introduced me to the health benefits as compared to our plain old tap or filtered water.

Naturally I was skeptical to begin with but the only way to be convinced was to simply try the water out.

The water is by no means a miracle cure-all, and the results differ for everyone, but gradually as you make it a habit to drink more and more often, the water can and will begin to impart health benefits.

Not all at once though but slowly I began to notice that I get hydrated quicker, re-energizing faster.

My skin and complexion improved and didn’t get dry as often in the dry winter months. This alone is worth the drink.
