What do you consider to be the best toy ever? Hint…it’s in the title, and in this article, we will take a look at some of the most amazing Lego Technic Car Sets to collect.

From the simplest sets to the most complex, Lego has created a huge range of kits catering to all kinds of people, places, and things. And one of their favorite type of kits are cars.

A little bit of history of Lego Technic Car sets

There was a time, I remember (and here I date myself…) when the only Lego car kits were all built using the same standard bricks that also made the house, fort, wall, bridge….you get the idea. The only thing that made the difference and made them appear as cars, was that there were wheels attached to the specific bricks that connected to the rest of the “chassis”.

Eventually there came slope pieces and boy did they make a difference. Consider a square “brick” mobile with wheels compared to a more aerodynamic sloped hooded and trunk brick vehicle, and you can even turn it into an open top car…so much fun!

Fast forward some 50 years later and the style and selection and the build-ability have made a whole world of difference. From kits we first recognize as cars to car kits that rival the actual super cars themselves.

The build levels have also increased for ages ranging from the youngest to the most senior kids-at-heart with the variation of kits that is simply breath-taking.

Introducing the Lego Technic line

For this review, we zoom in on what many consider is Lego’s premier line of kits labeled as Lego Technic. This line draws its origins from the Technical sets first introduced in 1977, and later renamed Technic in 1982. What makes this line so unique was the way it change how Lego kits were made.

Rather than using the standard stud bricks, new pieces were established characterized by special pieces like interconnecting rods, gears, axles and pins. This allows for more advanced models to be built with more special functions.

In time, gears and motors led to the evolution of the Lego Technic kits to more closely mimic the real life machines that we want so badly….but now in a more diminutive size.

What are the Best Lego Technic Car Sets to Collect?

This is a wonderful question that can give any hard-core Lego collector a raging conniption.

Admittedly, I am not so much a hard-core Lego collector and instead am more of a fun-loving Lego fan who appreciates the finer touches in the innovation and design of the kits that imitate the real life machines.

So the kits selected here are made more for their pure happy fun play and build-ability, along with a smidgen of jaw dropping awe for how awesome and incredible each of these kits really are.

Nothing can be more easy than choosing kits simply for the massive happy fun that each set can provide.

And for those of us who likely will never be able to afford the real life cars, it’s nice to know that there is always the option to be able to buy, build and display any one of these beauties in our home…without breaking the bank.

So without further ado, lets start those engines and gear up to see what are some of the best Lego Technic Cars Sets to collect.

Set 42000 : Grand Prix Racer

Set 42000: Grand Prix Racer
Lego Technic set 42000 : Grand Prix Racer

When you just don’t have the time or the spare funds to own a Grand Prix racing car, or even go to a racing event showcasing these super fast vehicles, why not build one ?

First introduced in 2014, set 42000 : Grand Prix Racer is an amazing kit that allows to build one of two models.

Set Pieces and Model Size

The main A model of the Grand Prix Racer measures out to 21 inches (almost 2 feet!), or 55 cm from nose to tail. The build requires some 1141 pieces to create a model that is almost spot on for a racer.

  • Two sheets of stickers to detail up the model

In addition, when this build is combined with kit 8293, which is a set of specialized motorized parts and battery box, you can actually turn the Grand Prix Racer into a real motorize model. How amazing is that!!

The B model builds a beefy racing semi truck with all the fixin’s, even the rear wing and supports.

Both models sport a handsome red and white colors, racing stripes and a big number 71, which, of course, is a great racing number to have! It just looks fast even standing still on display…they way these cars should be!

Being a large model with a considerable amount of pieces, Lego recommends this set for the ages 11 to 16. But given the whole lot of fun of building it, there have been reviews where even kids as young as 7 have built this, along with their grand-dads…ahem…helping out…ahem…

Available Instructions:

One thing to consider is that the available instructions booklets (three of them!) is meant only for the Grand Prix Racer model.
Instructions for the racing truck need to be accessed via the indicated internet Lego address, LEGO.com/technic

As a kit, with such a fun and immersive experience involved in the build, this early kit is certainly one of the best Lego Technic car sets to collect.

Set 42083 : Bugatti Chiron

Set 42083: Bugatti Chiron
Lego Technic set 42083 : Bugatti Chiron

This review would not be complete without including, what is arguably, one of the most incredible Lego Technic kits ever.

Following on the laurels of the high level of excellence established by the set 42056 : Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lego took it a step further when they introduced set 42083 : Bugatti Chiron, in 2018.

The prospect of recreating one of the most incredible modern ultra-luxury brand supercars to scale would likely be a bit intimidating for any model company since there are so many details and features in the real car. Not to mention endangering the reputation of the famous Bugatti brand.

Set Pieces and Model Size

But following the template set by the Porsche 911 GT3 RS kit, Lego partnered with Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S to capture the essence of the super sports car. Resulting in a stunning 1:8 scale replica, as well as an immediate premium collectible for all toy car enthusiasts.

Considered as a flagship kit within its premium line of Technic sets, Lego elevated the boxing to near legendary status with their new Technic premium packaging, matching the real vehicle blue tones and a professional logo and textual minimalism.

Actualized as a bigger kit than previous models, the entire bigger package weighs in to over 13 pounds, with a parts count of 3599 pieces. Already way more than the previous set.

The completed 1:8 scale model measures almost 2 feet (22 inches) in length and provides a ton of features replicated from the real car.

Available Instructions:

In terms of the available instructions, more is always better, and in this case there is not one but two huge full color collectors instruction booklets detailing the development history of the model in partnership with Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., along with plenty of color photos of sections and features of the real car in conjunction with the replica model. In total, there are about 628 pages that carry you through 970 steps to create an exemplary replica of the real thing.

When it comes to construction, Lego adds to the build experience and mimics the real Bugatti Chiron’s two stage assembly process. Hence like the real assembly, the LEGO Bugatti Chiron is designed with the front and rear frames built separately, and subassemblies joined to them, then they’re joined together in the final combination process.

Model Features:

Kit features include the following:

  • Detailed aerodynamic bodywork panels in the classic Bugatti two-tone blue color scheme that reflects the brand’s signature color.
  • Bugatti logo spoked rims with low-profile tires, and 4 original-designed detailed brake discs.
  • The accessible cockpit features a Technic 8-speed gearbox with movable paddle gearshift and a steering wheel bearing the Bugatti emblem.

  • A set of stickers in the same blue color scheme provides additional detailing.

The fully constructed model of the Lego Bugatti Chiron provides an incredible and immersive build experience and makes for an awesome and collectible display. Absolutely one of the most amazing Lego Technic car sets to collect.

Set 42093 : Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Set 42093: Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
Lego Technic Set 42093 : Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Among all the supercars available in the Lego Technic line of kits, it comes as a surprise that so few are of the North American car brands, which makes set 42093 : Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 a fairly unique and special kit to build.

Arguably the sight of a real corvette, let alone a Corvette ZR1, driving by can set the heart of any car fan racing…pardon the pun.

And building and displaying this iconic supercar can come pretty close to doing the same.

Although this set is not in the same premium class as the previous Porsche 911 GT3 RS or Bugatti Chiron kits, nonetheless, the same meticulous care and attention was taken in the creation of this model.

As in the previous kits, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 set was developed in partnership with the Chevrolet Corvette group in order to recreate the same engineering marvel as found in the real car.

Model Features:

In order to capture the essence of the iconic supercar, this exclusive and collectable model comes with the following features:

  • The model comes with the authentic orange and black color scheme on its body panels and parts.
  • Black spoked rims with low-profile tires comes standard.
  • A large rear wing and 4 tailpipes accentuates the back end.
  • Other working features include working steering and a visible detailed V8 engine with moving pistons.

Set Pieces and Model Size

When completed, this model measures out to 11 inches in length and the parts number 579 pieces, which is substantial even for this unique kit.

Like the Grand Prix racer kit, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 kit also allows to build two vehicles. The second optional model is a fun and eye catching Hot Rod in the same orange and black color scheme.

Showcasing the exposed V8 engine with moving pistons, the Hot Rod harkens back to the old school chop shop cranking out this classic speedster.

Available Instructions:

Unfortunately information on the box indicates that the available instructions booklet only caters to the Corvette ZR1 build and the instructions for the Hot Rod need to be accessed via the indicated internet Lego address, LEGO.com/technic

Considered as a regular Technic model, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 still showcases the unique engineering and effort that went into making this kit a fun and immersive build experience and one of the best Lego Technic car sets to collect.

Set 42096 : Porsche 911 RSR

Lego Technic Car Sets 42096: Porsche 911 RSR
Lego Technic set 42096 : Porsche 911 RSR

Three years after debuting the premium technic set of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lego revisited the iconic Porsche 911 once more. Partnering with Porsche again to develop the Technic set 42096 : Porsche 911 RSR, introduced in 2019.

Although this set is not in the same class as the premium kit Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the Porsche 911 RSR kit still comes pretty close on being considered a high end kit.

Available Instructions:

Without the fussiness of the high end packaging or collectors instruction booklet, this model still imbues much of the features as expected in a high end model. The available instructions booklet still come in a tome heavy 503 pages though.

Set Pieces and Model Size

With a highly realistic aerodynamic exterior emblematic of the real Porsche 911 RSR, this kit manages all of its amazing features using a smaller parts count of just 1580 pieces. Still far more than the usual technic line of kits.

Model Features:

Designed into this incredible kit are the following features:

  • Body paneling recreating the vehicle’s powerful appearance with its sharp contours and aerodynamic detailing.
  • Included is a rear wing with ‘swan neck’ mounts, extended rear diffuser and specially designed side mirrors.
  • Visible working differential, independent suspension and a 6-cylinder boxer toy engine with moving pistons positioned in front of the rear axle.
  • The accessible cabin features a radar screen, working steering, fire extinguisher system and even a track map of the Laguna Seca circuit printed onto the driver’s door.
  • Black spoked rims, realistic head and tail lights and an authentic white, red and black color scheme with sticker detailing.

Measuring a bit shorter at 19 inches in length, since it isn’t exactly in the same scale as the premium kit, this Porsche 911 RSR still exudes much of the essence of what makes a Porsche look like a Porsche. And in this case, the model will still display amazingly well even on a smaller footprint.

Since this kit was model on a Porsche 911 heavily modify version of the endurance racer, the model, as well as the real car, looks great and fast even while just standing still. Another candidate for one of the best Lego Technic car sets to collect!

Set 42110 : Land Rover Defender

Lego Technic Car Set 42110: Land Rover Defender
Lego Technic set 42110 : Land Rover Defender

The introduction of set 42110 : Land Rover Defender kit in 2019 was a big change for the Lego Technic line since they normally centered on sport cars and heavy tracked vehicles.

However, having finally partnered and gained the license with the renown automaker Jaguar/Land Rover, this provided the perfect opportunity for Lego Technic to develop their first SUV/All-Terrain vehicle in the set 42110 : Land Rover Defender.

Set Pieces and Model Size

Designed in the similar 1:10 scale as the previous Porsche 911 RSR, the Land Rover Defender is still a large kit with a parts count of 2573 pieces. And like the Porsche 911 RSR kit, this set is still consider a normal part of the Technic lineup. So despite its size, the boxing is still of the regular type and not the premium packaging like the Bugatti Chiron set.

Available Instructions:

Being one of the first SUV sets in the Technic line, what is on offer does not disappoint, as along with the massive parts count, there needs to be an equally massive instruction booklet of some 495 pages.

  • Large body paneling recreating the car’s modern and powerful profile, and in its unique olive green color scheme.
  • New original designed black rims that mimic the Defender’s 6-spoke hubs.
  • Working steering wheel with a 4-speed sequential gearbox…yes a gear box is include unlike the Porsche 911 RSR kit.
  • All Wheel Drive is available with 3 differentials, forward/neutral/reverse switches.
  • The 4 wheel drive connects both axles which powers an inline 6-cylinder engine with working pistons.
  • Tough independent suspension that replicates the real Defender’s tough stance in any terrain.
  • Built in working winch in the front bumper with a locking mechanism.
  • The accessible cabin from the two opening doors features a detailed dashboard, working steering wheel, gear section with 2 levers for engaging high or low gear ratios and a selector for changing gear, plus forward-folding seats for visual access to the gearbox.

Hence, by making the set such an incredible immersive build experience, this makes the Land Rover Defender one of the best Lego Technic car sets to collect.

Set 42115 : Lamborghini Sián FKP 37

Lego Technic Car Set 42115: Lamborghini Sián FKP 37
Lego Technic Set 42115 : Lamborghini Sián FKP 37

There is an old adage that good things comes in threes and when it concerns Lego kits, nothing can be more true when Lego introduced their third super premium Technic kit, set 42115 : Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, in 2020.

Without doubt the Lamborghini Italian supercar brand can be credited for introducing the public to some of the most incredible and modern supercars the world has ever known.

Lamborghini is literally synonymous for luxury high-end supercars, and their first hybrid supercar, the Sián FKP 37, is an excellent choice for Lego’s third super premium Technic set. What better than a lime green hybrid supercar?

Lego continues to push the envelop when it comes to their Technic builds. So when compared to their previous two premium kits, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Bugatti Chiron, the Sián FKP 37 set goes further to faithfully recreate the car’s incredible features.

Following the template established earlier, the premium packaging is bold but gets creative with the front of the box displaying a stylized image of the Sián’s green hood with just a small Lamborghini emblem. And the top of the box imitates the Sián’s rear end with exhaust pipes and taillights. How fun!!…and no…they don’t light up…boo.

Set Pieces and Model Size

In total the parts count comes to 3696 pieces and the fully loaded box weighs in at a little over 13 pounds, quite a bit more than even the amazing Bugatti Chiron.

Available Instructions:

There is more to the available instructions too. Similar to the Bugatti Chiron kit, the instructions comes in two huge full color collectors instruction booklets containing full color photos and background information on both the real car and the Technic model.

But in a creative whim, the two manuals sit side-by-side, with a single image of the finished model splayed across both front covers. In total, there are about 656 pages that carry you through 1084 steps to create an incredible replica of the real car.

Taking a step further in the instruction booklets, the opening pages and at the beginning of each parts group, there’s a QR code with a direct link to a short video on LEGO’s website about the model and its parts. Pretty handy reference when building this complex set.

The completed model is in the standard 1:8 scale, and measures out to 23 inches, with a parts count of 3696 pieces, which is considerably more than even the Bugatti Chiron, but what you get is an incredibly sleek and sharp model that is worth every moment of the build.

Model Features:

The wonderful features included in this kit are the following:

  • A bold and striking profile of the aerodynamic bodywork panels in the distinctive Lamborghini lime green color scheme that reflects the car’s signature color in their advertisements.
  • Distinctive gold rims with low-profile tires, and 4 original-designed detailed brake discs.
  • The accessible cockpit features a Technic 8-speed transmission activated by the movable paddle gearshift.
  • The steering wheel can turn to actuate the available 4 wheel drive.
  • The rear lid can lift off to allow a view of the detailed V12 engine with moving pistons.
  • Detailed front and rear suspension with tough suspension springs.
  • Unique connections allow control of the movable rear spoiler by a lever in the cabin.
  • Opening front and rear hood, and the classic scissor doors can open by pushing on a panel behind and above each seat.
  • Each kit comes with a decorative display plate and unique serial number to unlock exclusive online content.
  • Note: as befitting a premium kit, there is no longer a sticker sheet for more detail. Instead all detail elements are prints.

This Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 model is a stunning showcase of the Lego Technic engineering.

What you build is not only an incredible model of the real car, but also a great immersive construction experience enhanced with some wonderful online content. Making this kit currently one of the best Lego Technic Cars sets to collect.

Set 42123 : McLaren Senna GTR

Lego Technic Car Set 42123: McLaren Senna GTR
Lego Technic Set 42123 : McLaren Senna GTR

Coming on the heels of the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, Lego Technic’s next supercar kit is, admittedly, a bit underwhelming.
However, set 42123 : Mclaren Senna GTR, doesn’t disappoint since it has a lot to offer.

Introduced in late 2020, Lego’s choice to model McLaren’s most advance track supercar appears to be quite the match as the features and powerful aerodynamics of the car lends very well as a Lego Technic supercar!

Although the McLaren Senna GTR set is not a premium kit, such as the Bugatti Chiron, this regular level set, exhibits the playability and rich features that hint that this kit subtly punches way above its class.

Set Pieces and Model Size

The kit builds out a smaller 1:15 scale replica of the amazing supercar which measures out to a little over 12 inches (32 cm) in length. This comprises 830 pieces for the construction which is still substantial for such an small kit.

In a nod to the standard set in the premium sets, this kit has all the pieces portioned into 3 groups of bags separating the build process into three easy to understand sections.

Available Instructions:

The available instructions booklet is also simpler and lighter with just 148 pages, but still containing some 220 steps providing for a fairly immersive and fun experience into the construction of this supercar.

Model Features:

In order to make this supercar set super fun, the features include the following:

  • Authentic aerodynamic body panels in a distinct shade of blue.
  • The “real” V8 engine mounts in the middle showcasing moving pistons.
  • Clever engineering provides for a small gear situated in the roof that allow you to steer the front wheels.
  • The dihedral doors can open and swing upwards like all real McLarens.
  • The rear wing is a prominent feature with swan neck mounts as per the real car.
  • The set comes with two type of tires. Regular wide for the rear tires and narrower front tires.
  • A set of replica decals and sponsors to make the Senna GTR model look like the real supercar.

Even though the McLaren Senna GTR set is a smaller and simpler kit, there is no doubt a lot of thought and Technic engineering went into making this set one of the most fun and best Lego Technic car sets to collect.

Set 42125 : Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51”

Lego Technic Car Set 42125: Ferrari 488 GTE "AF Corse #51"
Lego Technic Set 42125 : Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51”

The next great Lego Technic car to collect continues with the track car theme, and following on from set 42123 : McLaren Senna GTR, we have set 42125 : Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51”. Introduced in late 2020.

This set is the Lego Technic’s latest accomplishment in partnership with the Ferrari company that has been fruitful for over 15 years. And over 50 kits later, this next Ferrari kit steps it up to the same class as the set 42096 : Porsche 911 RSR.

Set Pieces and Model Size

Besides being a track car designed to compete in endurance races such as the Porsche 911 RSR, the Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” kit also has a similar amount of parts at 1677 pieces, and at the same 1:10 scale as the Porsche kit, measures comparably to 19 inches (48 cm) in length.

When you picture a Ferrari supercar, one would typically imagine a bright red race car, and with this kit you get a humongous amount of red parts that make up the majority of the body paneling. So much so, that you can even forgo using the mass of stickers (2 sheets) that are available to represent the appearance of the real racer with lots of sponsor logos and numbers.

Although the Ferrari kit is in the same build class as the Porsche 911 RSR, being separately introduced over a year apart can make a big difference. And it would appear that Lego had decided to elevate this class of larger 1:10 scale kits almost to the level of the premium 1:8 scale supercar kits such as the set 42115 : Lamborghini Sián FKP 37.

The biggest change came with the overall packaging. Although different from the packaging of the premium kits, the change in the design of the packaging to this 1:10 scale kit made them all the more appealing.

Instead of the standard design of the regular Technic Kits, the new design is simple and bold.

The box front displays a complete model on an overall black background along with the Lego and car name and logo, then a bold red band made up of technic pieces bordering the bottom of the box. Simple, but effective.

The back of the box displays the complete model’s best rear side with all the colors as on the real car. Along with two large photos, one of the real racer in all it’s racing glory, and the second with the real and built model posing against each other. Quite the impressive display.

Available Instructions:

The available instructions booklet is also an upgrade to the level similar to the premium kits. The starting section devotes several pages about the car, the racing team, and finally the design and development of the model by the Technic team. All accompanied with loads of photos and illustrations, some comparing the profile of the real car to the model. Impressive!

This does not take away from the fact that the instructions is still hefty at 327 pages containing some 592 steps for a kit that, when fully built, creates an impressive replica of the amazing racer.

Model Features:

Designed into this incredible kit are the following features:

  • Intricate body panels faithfully duplicating the car’s aerodynamic shape, and mostly all in red color scheme.
  • Fully independent front and back suspension.
  • Accessible cabin with opening doors.
  • Interior detailed with included stickers and functioning steering wheel.
  • Viewable rear section displaying the V8 engine with moving pistons.
  • Distinctive rear wing with reverse swan neck.
  • Two sheets of stickers of the sponsor logos and numbers.

With its distinctive shape and red color scheme, there is no mistaking this kit for an amazing Ferrari super racer.
And at this scale, the model is large and detailed enough to make for an incredible display without the high cost and heft of the premium Lego Technic supercar kits. Overall this is one of the best Lego Technic car sets to collect!

Set 42141 : McLaren Formula 1 Race Car

Lego Technic Car Set 42141: McLaren Formula 1 Race Car
Lego Technic Set 42141 : McLaren Formula 1 Race Car

The latest collaboration between Lego Technic and the McLaren Racing team generated the Lego Technic set 42141 : McLaren Formula 1 Race Car.

This unique partnership had the Lego Technic engineers work closely with the McLaren Racing team, such that both teams were able to develop their version of the racing car at the same time for the 2022 race season.

However, and understandably so, there was still a necessary level of secrecy with the McLaren Race Team. So the Lego Technic model, release on March 1, 2022, could only be a close replica of the last prototype of the actual F1 race car.

Such that when the real McLaren Formula 1 race car was introduce after the Lego technic model, there were obviously some differences, such as the colors, body shapes and wheels.

In any case, the Lego Technic version of the McLaren Formula 1 race car is a master piece of design and buildability reminiscent of the earlier set 42000 : Grand Prix Racer. But on a bigger scale.

Set Pieces and Model Size

Developed in the same adult build level as the Ferrari 488 GTE set, the McLaren Formula 1 Race car set is truly a large vehicle with a completed length of 25.5 inches (65cm), which means you’ll need a good size space to display this beauty.

But for all its size, the parts count only totals 1432 pieces which can make for a fairly easy-going and fun build.

The packaging also follows the standard design now identifiable for adult level kits, displaying the complete model in a bold black background along with the Lego and car brand and logo. Rather eye catching.

On the back of the box is a full length right side view of the model above pics of the real car racing, and comparison of the real race car with the model.

Available Instructions:

The impressive available instructions booklet follows the same template with the starting section devoting several pages about the car, and both of the McLaren and Lego Technic development teams. And the requisite span of photos and illustrations, including a nose to nose two page shot comparing the real car to the model at about the same size.

Model Features:

This humongous kit includes the following features:

  • Large body panels replicating the aerodynamic power and color scheme of the real race car.
  • Working control column/steering wheel.
  • Open views in the body panel to showcase a working V6 engine with functioning pistons.
  • Tough springs for the suspensions and working differentials.
  • Two sheets of stickers to detail up the model

Unfortunately, unlike the set 42000 : Grand Prix Racer, this set makes no allowances for any motorize functions…yet.

But as in previous Lego Technic sets, this McLaren Formula 1 Race car set takes the building fun to a new level, creating a truly amazing vehicle that will be great to display and admire. Making this one of the best Lego Technic car sets to collect.

And based on the huge Lego fan base out there, there is no end to what can be use to “fix up” these Lego Technic cars.

Such as it is, we don’t have an unlimited time or space to mention all the “extras”. An occasional search on Google or YouTube will open a plethora of Lego builders showcasing what they have done to improve or upgrade their kits.

However, we can highlight some accessories, easily available, that can certainly take these Lego Technic car kits to the next level. Further giving these cars that much more of a “WOW” factor when they are on awesome display.

Being car kits, one of the most obvious upgrades that come to mind is to obviously motorize them! What could be better than to make static display car kits actually move ?

Spare Parts available for Lego Technic Car sets

After-market technic engine and suspension parts set
Fenglintech brand after-market technic engine and suspension parts set

One of the great features with the Lego Technic kits is that they often come with some extra pieces in case any are lost during the build. It’s great that there can be spare parts available when needed.

However, as is evident from some reviews of the kits, sometimes there are some piece(s) that just come missing in an otherwise fully boxed set. Although this does not happen often, when dealing with thousands of sets being box, occasionally, the odd piece can be missed.

When this occurs (unfortunately), the logical solution provided by many Lego fans, is to simply contact Lego online and request for the missing part. Lego’s Customer Service link can be found here : Lego Customer Service

However, on the occasion when you need more than the single spare piece to fix/upgrade a set, there are spare parts available at either Lego or in after-market sets. And these sets come in all manner of part types that are handy for any Lego Technic car set.

Admittedly, the after-market parts sets are not legitimately Lego, but they have been design to be compatible with actual Lego sets. And in some sets you can get quite a lot of parts for whatever build project or improvement you have in mind.

Take for example a parts set from the FenglinTech brand that contain Technic engine and suspension parts compatible with Lego kits.
This set includes over a hundred parts with enough parts to build a basic engine with working pistons, and enough parts for four suspension units, assorted types of steering wheels, and wheel connections, but no wheels whatsoever.
Still a pretty good set for the spare parts available box or creative addition you have on plan.
